Mocali

The Ciacci family has owned land in the southwestern part of the Montalcino zone since 1956, and Dino Ciacci was one of the 30 co-founders of the Brunello Consortium in 1967. The vast majority of the 9 hectares of vineyards have Brunello di Montalcino status, but only since 1990 has the family Ciacci bottled its own with its labels. The current owner Tiziano Ciacci (Dino’s grandson) produces wines with great elegance and focus on the pure Sangiovese fruit. Mocali is still unnoticed but has already marked itself with top spots at several tastings. In general, it must be said that there is excellent “value for money” when choosing wines from the Ciacci family. Furthermore, for several years now, we have been able to see great stability, as well as a slight turn towards even more elegant wines.

Half of the property’s 32 ha are covered by natural vegetation, predominantly oak forest. The rest is devoted to the production of wine and olives. Their single field wine is called Vigna delle Raunate and their Riserva, which is only produced in the very best years. The riserva is extremely complex and should have time to develop. It does not give much away as a young person. Vigna della Raunate can typically settle for a few years in the basement before it shows its full strength.
On the other hand, you get an incredibly complex Brunello with fantastic shades and great depth. Mocali’s base Brunello, on the other hand, is usually very expressive already a few months after release. With its very pure cherry character, this wine impresses most people, and today it has become one of the most preferred choices among our customers. When you taste the wine, you understand why you talk about tobacco and mint connected with Brunello. Mocalis Brunello is further interesting because it adds a charming touch of cinnamon in many vintages that one does not encounter so often.
