Il Marroneto

From the vineyards, in the background, are the towers of Siena that frame a unique scenario. We meet the one that is rightfully one of the most important wineries in all of Montalcino: Il Marroneto.
We are in the northern area of the appellation, at about 350 meters above sea level, not far from the town walls: it is here where it all began in 1974, with Giuseppe Mori who planted the first 3 thousand meters of vineyards, which doubled in 1979, only to be added by the last 9 thousand meters in 1984.
Today, Alessandro Mori firmly holds the company’s reins, continuing to follow the path his father took more than forty years ago. Between the rows, the vines are treated to the bare minimum, and avoiding intensive production, each Sangiovese plant has 3.6 square meters at its disposal to allow for good rooting. With the utmost respect for the environment, nature, ecosystem, and biodiversity, the vineyard management is minimalist, so the rhythms of the season are followed, and the balance of each plant is protected.
In the cellar, the spaces were originally organized into two small rooms of a building once used as a chestnut drying kiln (hence the company’s name) only to be expanded over the years, always following the logic of simplicity and functionality.
This is how Alessandro Mori continues to pursue the main objective of the company from season to season, aimed at producing high-quality wines. The great attention paid to the entire production, from harvesting to bottling, is evident in each glass, and each label is vinified according to the traditional style of Montalcino, where the skillful use of large oak barrels means that very elegant, rich in perfumes, suitable for meditation.
From the Rosso di Montalcino “Ignaccio” to the Brunello di Montalcino, up to the “Madonna delle Grazie” selection, the ones labeled “Il Marroneto” are all wines that convey the most important prestige of the Ilcinese lands.
