Domaine Francois Bertheau

Francois Bertheau represents the fifth generation of the family dedicated to the winery, whose origins date back to the end of the eighteenth century.
Francois has been managing the Domaine since 2004. He focuses on the typicality of the wine brought to the territory of Chambolle Musigny, the municipality in which he resides and in which all his parcels are located.
Francois intervenes in a limited way in the vineyard and tries to limit the cellar practices: he uses few rackings and very little new wood (only 10% of the total lets his grapes and wines express themselves.
The wines ferment in steel and cement for 14-16 days; all his wines are then aged in oak barrels for 18 months; only Chambolle Musigny Village is aged in large oak tonneau.

Five types of wines offered by the Domaine: “Chambolle Musigny” (2.90ha), “Chambolle Musigny 1er cru” (1.10ha), which is a blend of different parcels spread over some 1er cru of the municipality (such as Baudes, Groseilles, Gruenchers, and Noirots) all very close to each other, and that Francois decided to make wine together, “Chambolle Musigny 1er cru Les Charmes” (0.66ha), the prestigious 1er cru of “Les Amoureuses” (0.32ha) and, finally, a parcel on the grand cru “Bonnes Mares” (0.34ha), which is found half in the Terres rouges and the other half in the Terres blanches, which allows them to be dosed in the vinification.

The possessions of the Domaine extend for 6.22 ha in total, and the average age of the vines is about 50 years; the yields in the vineyard are very low: half of the maximum allowed by the disciplinary.
These elements make the Francois Bertheau winery an uncompromising reality, as are its great wines. Moreover, Francois never stops innovating to find the best way to express the territory through his wines.
