Domaine Jean Grivot

Originally from the Jura region of France, the Grivot family has been involved in viticulture for centuries, ever since it was in the city of Arcenant, in the Côte d’Or, in the distant 1600s. Founded by Joseph Grivot, the company was transferred to Vosnée-Romanée shortly before the French Revolution. It was then enlarged by Joseph’s son, Gaston Grivot, who managed to buy important vineyard plots falling within the famous “Clos de Vougeot,” to which little more than three hectares of the renowned “Richebourg” cru will be added later.

Managed since the late 1980s by Etienne Grivot, who took over the company after some experiences in California and many others in France and in turn currently assisted by his two sons, “Domaine Jean Grivot” now covers a total area of approximately 42 hectares, and can boast vineyards corresponding to 18 different AOCs. Among the Grand Crus of the Domaine, in addition to Richebourg and Clos de Vougeot, the cru of Echèzeaux should be mentioned, while the Premier Crus are located in particular in Vosnée-Romanée, in Nuits St. Georges, in Chambolle Musigny and in “Combe d ‘ Orveau “.

Between the rows, the minimum age of the plants reaches four decades, but above all, every agronomic choice adopted is aimed at respecting the environment, nature, biodiversity, and the ecosystem as much as possible. With a density of over 11 thousand stumps per hectare, the fertilizers in the vineyard are reduced to a minimum, and horses are used extensively instead of tractors.

In the cellar, centuries-old traditions and contemporary technologies meet. After carefully selecting the grapes, fermentation occurs only by indigenous yeasts, while aging, carried out in Allier oak barrels, lasts for no less than 18 months. Neither clarification nor filtration is carried out before bottling.
This is how unique wines come to life, identifying the best of the terroir to which they belong, bottles that give emotions.
