Mastrojanni

In 1975 that lawyer, Gabriele Mastrojanni bought the San Pio and Loreto estates and decided to plant his first vineyards. Today, thanks to an exceptional terroir and the people who have believed in it for decades, Mastrojanni has become one of the most respected Montalcino producers.

Since 1992 Andrea Machetti has been responsible for the renowned estate as Managing Director – first for Mastrojanni and later for the new owner, the Illy family. The coffee roasters from Trieste took over the winemaking business in 2008, after they had already taken over the Italian chocolate manufacturer Domori and the Parisian tea house Dammann.

The Illy family has mainly invested in the basement. Fermentation plants were renewed, and many medium-sized barrels were purchased. The style of the house is typical for the southwest of the Montalcino growing area.
